Legal Metrology Department conducted a surprise inspection
on Wednesday at an electrical shop in Fatorda Arlem following a consumer
complaint. The investigation, led by Nitin,
a legal metrology officer, revealed a violation allegedly committed by a
renowned branded company operating within the establishment.
The department’s findings
unveiled a concerning practice where the company had affixed stickers
indicating a new manufacturing date on products for sale, potentially
misleading consumers about the actual age of the merchandise. This act is
deemed a violation of regulations that govern accurate representation and
disclosure of manufacturing details to buyers.
Nitin, speaking on behalf
of the Legal Metrology Department, expressed grave concern over this deceptive
practice that could mislead consumers and compromise their rights. As a
consequence of this violation, the department seized products worth 8-10 lakhs which
were associated with this wrongdoing.
