Legal Metrology Dept Conducts Raid at Margao, Seizes Goods worth Rs. 3 Lakhs

Department of Legal Metrology on Tuesday conducted a crackdown on a distributor of a reputed masala brand and seized goods valued Rs. 3 lakhs. The action was prompted by the presence of packages carrying the declaration “Non-standard size under Legal Metrology Rules, 2011,” a violation of the Legal Metrology Act 2009, in conjunction with the Legal Metrology Rules.

Nitin P. Purushan, Assistant Controller of Legal Metrology, South Zone-I, Margao, Goa, led the raid, demonstrating the department’s unwavering commitment to enforcing compliance with legal standards. He was assisted by Bhupendra U. Dessai, Inspector of Legal Metrology, Margao-I, Goa, and Azen R. Rodrigues, Inspector of Legal Metrology, Margao-II, Goa, along with the dedicated staff from the Margao Office.

This successful operation was carried out under the vigilant guidance of Arun N. Panchwadkar, Controller of Legal Metrology, Porvorim, Goa, highlighting the collaborative effort of the Legal Metrology Department to ensure that consumers receive products that adhere to legal standards and regulations.

The seized goods, valued at Rs. 3 lakhs, were found to be in violation of the Legal Metrology Act 2009, which aims to safeguard the interests of consumers by ensuring accurate measurements and standardization of package sizes. The presence of the “Non-standard size” declaration on the packaging raised concerns regarding the product’s compliance with legal metrology standards.
