MARGAO: Even as the Seraulim panchayat has decided to issue notices to the starred hotels from where garbage finds its way into the village causing nuisance, agitated residents have threatened to take legal recourse if the two waste dumps are not cleared by August 15 as promised by Chief Minister, Manohar Parrikar.
The residents assembled outside the Seraulim panchayat ghar when the panchayat had its meeting on Tuesday noon, as they pinned their hopes on the Chief Minister to honour his word and rid the village of the waste dumps.
After the meeting Sarpanch Leslie Dourado told the media that he is supporting the villagers demand for shifting of the waste dumps.
He said the Panchayat has decided to serve notices on the hotels, from where the contractors bring waste in the village, adding that the Panchayat would meet again if there’s no change in the ground reality.
Convenor of Seraulim Villagers Action Committee Rodney Almeida and social activist Zeferino Fernandes said the villagers had tried everything to stop the garbage menace, but             in vain.
