SANGUEM: Local MLA Prasad Gaonkar on Sunday criticised the select distribution of immunity boosting tablets by some political leaders in Sanguem constituency.
Gaonkar alleged that a team of BJP workers from Sanguem are on the way to distribute of immunity booster tablets in the constituency. Incidentally, the tablets are distributed only to BJP supporters while the rest of the people are sidelined and not provided with the tablets.
The distribution of the Arsenic Album 30 tablets, which are obtained from the Director of Health Services, are resorted by select BJP workers from Sanguem and the same are distributed only to party workers thereby raising doubts among the general public if it is only the BJP workers, who are susceptible to COVID while others are not.
Gaonkar informed that he tried to contact Chief Minister Pramod Sawant and the Health Minister Vishwajit Rane to seek clarifications on the issue, but were unavailable for comments.
Gaonkar said to avoid any misunderstanding among the people, the government will have to distribute the tablets through the BLOs and anganwadi workers to avoid misuse of the same and to ensure that the people get them.
Gaonkar urged the government to keep politics away at least in the distribution of the tablets as all the locals should get the same and not only select individuals.
Gaonkar appealed to the people of Sanguem, who have not received the tablets, not to panic, but wait for their turn as he assured to approach the authorities soon to ensure the supply of the tablets to all people.
Meanwhile, youth leader and social worker from Sanguem Messiah D’Costa along with Savitri Kavlekar distributed immunity boosting tablets in the constituency on Saturday.
Messiah informed that over the last two days, they have distributed the tablets in most parts of Sanguem town and Uguem and added that the drive will continue in the next few days with the help of Savitri.
