VASCO: Two-time councillor Leo Rodrigues was elected unopposed as the new chairperson of Mormugao Municipal Council at a special meeting held at the municipal hall, on Monday.
Deputy Director of Urban Development Ganesh Barve, who was the Presiding Officer declared Rodrigues elected unopposed as chairperson since there was no other nomination filed for the vacant post. Mormugao Chief Officer Jayant Tari was also present.
Soon after his election, Rodrigues thanked all the councillors for reposing their faith in him and assured them that he will take all councillors into confidence and give equal attention to them and will not discriminate between ruling and opposition councillors as far as development works and projects are concerned in the port town. Rodrigues represents Ward 25.
Panchayats Minister Mauvin Godinho and Vasco MLA Krishna ‘Daji’ Salkar were also present and congratulated Rodrigues on his election.
Godinho said that for the first time there was integration between three constituencies whose parts fall in the municipality and claimed that the Mormugao Taluka would soon be the number one taluka in the State.
