SANGUEM: A leopard attacked youth riding a two-wheeler in the Donole ward of Rivona village, leaving Mohan Wadkar, a youngster from Wadem, with injuries to his knee. Fortunately, his brother Prashant, who was riding pillion, managed to escape without any injuries. The incident took place in the late evening on December 6 as the two brothers were returning home.
Surprisingly, 15 minutes later, the same leopard attacked another two-wheeler at the same location, causing minor injuries to the rider as he lost control and fell off the vehicle. Shortly after, the leopard targeted a four-wheeler passing by, leaving visible damage to the vehicle.
Range Forest Officer Deepak Mahale promptly arrived at the site with his team to search for the wild animal, but no trace of it was found. Assuring the residents,
Mahale stated that the department would take necessary steps to ensure the safety of the people.
He suggested that the leopard might have recently given birth nearby, leading to increased aggression.
To ward off the animal, the authorities are using fire bombs, and a team of four guards, along with a Range Forest Officer, has been deployed in the village to protect the locals.
It is noteworthy that the area where the attacks occurred lacks streetlights, adding to the challenges faced by both residents and authorities.
Black panther lurks around homes in Male-Sacorda
PANJIM: Residents in the Sacorda area are living in fear after a black panther attempted to break into the house of Vijay Chari at Male-Sacorda on Wednesday night. This incident follows a recent sighting of a black panther at Atul Naik’s residence in Wandalya-Dharbandora.
When forest officials set a trap near Naik’s house to capture the black panther, a leopard was trapped instead. The black panther is suspected to have relocated to a different area.
On Wednesday night. Chari acted swiftly, closing the back door just in time to prevent the big cat from entering his house. The black panther then retreated into the surrounding forest.
