CHANDOR: Wild Life Protection squad attached to South Goa District Forest office on Thursday early morning successfully trapped a 2-year-old juvenile male leopard at Caviora, Mola, Chandor in the third attempt. Although the leopard was sighted by Benny Mascarenhas in his plantation which falls in the Chandor Forest range he did not bother. But the leopard lifted one Persian cat from the house of Mascarenhas around two months back and Mascarenhas informed the forest officials of the same. The Wild Life Rescue Squad made two attempts to cage the wild cat but failed, but was successful in its third attempt.
“As the leopard took away my Persian cat, I thought of tacking revenge and informed the forest officials. Otherwise the wild cat had never troubled me. The leopard had many times crossed my car when I used to go for rounds in my plantation at nights. Even last night I had sighted four eyes in the plantation,” informed Mascarenhas.
Forest department has shifted the leopard to Quepem for treatment as it has hurt its right pow and head.
The leopard will be released in natural habitat after treatment, said DCF Anil Shetgaoker when contacted.
