Let CM handle portfolio, govt will be stable: GFP chief

MARGAO: The Goa Forward Party President Vijai Sardesai has left the job of allocation of portfolios to the Chief Minister of Goa Pramod Sawant, while maintaining that the Lok Sabha election will have a bearing on the states result.
Sardesai said that the portfolio distribution is a prerogative of the CM.
While commenting on the present political situation he said “One of the reasons we supported Manohar Parrikar in 2017 was to make sure we have a stable government that can finish the term. The situation with the opposition, which was bad then, has now become worse with their numbers dwindling at regular intervals. We cannot afford to tinker with stability, which is critical for the development we want to bring to Goa. Also the organisational wing of the Congress, looks at GF as a bigger enemy than even the BJP and constantly attack us regularly, mostly on unjustifiable grounds.
When asked how it plans to navigate through alliance partners in the post Parrikar-era, he said “The only question that has come up is whether the government can deliver without Parrikar at the helm. That’s what we will work towards. To ensure this, we offer a progressive and an efficient government to the people of Goa. We have just begun. Let’s see how we progress by having periodic assessment of our priorities. New arrangements have been set up to ensure stability in this coalition government.
Vijai added that the Congress had set precedence with two Dy CMs during their rule. “So again, nothing new. Parrikar being at the helm made a difference in the structure of the government. In the current political situation such arrangements are necessary as they facilitate equitable sharing of responsibilities and ensure balance of power and thus safeguard stability” he explained.
Commenting on the LS  elections, Vijai said that it will decide who will rule the country. “In a federal structure that has a bearing on the state’s future too” he pointed out.
