A meeting was called by the Superintendent of Police South Shekhar Prabhudesai in the South Goa police headquarters here on Saturday with the warring taxi owners and operators to work out an amicable solution to the dispute. Assistant Transport Director Sandeep Desai also attended.
After the meeting, SP Prabhudessai told Herald that he has issued a stern warning to the two groups not to create any problem which might result in a law and order situation.
“The issue raised by the two groups pertained to the Road Transport Authority (RTA). Let the RTA which issues the permits take a call on the controversy. The police have to only deal with the law and order situation,” the district police said, while issuing a warning to the warring groups that they will have to face the consequences if they disturb the law and order.
Both the groups have accused each other of assault and have lodged complaints at the Margao police station. While the taxi owners operating from the Colva stand have maintained that they are not allowed to play from the Margao railway station, the taxi operators from the railway station have contended that only those operators having valid permit to operate from the railway station should be allowed to do so.
The RTA meeting is likely to take place on Tuesday and is expected to deliberate on the dispute.
