Levy collection work: SGPDA asked to maintain status quo

MARGAO: The South Goa Planning Development Authority (SGPDA) has been asked to maintain the status quo in the levy collection work of the markets until the disposal of the application for injunction that was filed by contractor Milagres Fernandes.

Fernandes had filed an application at the Court of the Civil Judge Junior Division asking for injunction and specific relief for his removal as the levy collection contractor of the SGPDA.

He contended that the SGPDA has given him the work on the condition that he collects the levy charges and maintains the market until tender is floated.

The Court has ordered that status quo be maintained and the defendant be directed not to terminate the work of the defendant till the disposal of the application.

On September 24, the levy collection contractor had filed the civil suit appealing against the termination of his contract with the SGPDA.

Meanwhile, the SGPDA had resolved at the authority meeting to cancel the work of levy collection and asked the contractor to pay the pending money he owes to the SGPDA.

“I have paid the money but acknowledgment for only half the sum was shown in the receipt,” the contractor alleged.

Right from the beginning of the levy collection, a couple of months before the lockdown, there was no tender for the work. The SGPDA has been asked to represent on October 5, which is the date of next hearing.
