PANJIM: A furore has been raised over the Goa government’s decision to ‘postpone’ the freewheeling idea based festival in the name and memory of a great Goan, Damodar Dharmanand Kosambi, eminent mathematician and Marxist historian, who wrote extensively on the development of science and its use.
The 14the edition of DD Kosambi Festival of Ideas, scheduled from November 10 to14 at Ravindra Bhavan, Margao.
It is learned that the inclusion of speakers like Devdutt Pattaniak, Suraj Yengde, and Madhavi Menon, who are known critics of right-wing organizations, in the panel of speakers triggered a reaction from within the ruling party which led to the decision to “postpone” the festival
However, in a press statement issued on Monday late evening, the Directorate of Art and Culture has informed that the event is rescheduled due to poor response of students’ participation in view of ongoing examinations.
“Also, the renovation/urgent repair works of Ravindra Bhavan, Margao, are in full swing and have not yet been completed to give it a festival look and due to this, it will be difficult for the Department to hold the festival at Ravindra Bhavan,” the department further said.
This year’s lecture series included speakers such as Jnanpith Awardee Damodar Mauzo, Prof Madhavi Menon, Dr. Devdutt Pattanaik, Dr. Suraj Yengde, and Prof Pranay Lal.
