Liberation Day: Govt invites innovative ideas for year-long activities

PANJIM: The State government has decided to commemorate the significant and momentous occasion of 60th year of Goa Liberation Day in a grand manner by commemorating it as a State programme with year-long programmes/activities in various parts of the State and across India.  

The launch of 60th year of Liberation was held in the distinguished presence of President of India Ram Nath Kovind in the State, on December 19, 2020.

The State government has decided to celebrate this momentous occasion as a State programme by planning various year-long activities/programmes not just in the State, but across major cities of the country including national capital, New Delhi.

The year-long programmes/activities including various competitions are aimed at showcasing Goan art, culture, food, and journey of the State in the past 60 years.

Goa, the tiny State in the Indian Union which attained freedom from the clutches of foreign yoke after 14 years of India’s Independence entered into 60 years of its liberation on December 19, 2020. 

The State government has already started holding talks with various States so as to honour and acknowledge the contribution of freedom fighters residing in other parts of the country besides holding other activities to mark the celebration and disseminate information amongst the people of this country.

 The Central government acceding to the genuine demand of the State government for special funds for various activities to be conducted during these celebrations, allocated a bonanza of Rs 300 crore in the recent Union Budget in the form of grant to celebrate 60 years of Liberation. The Central government has really brought smiles on the people in the State by granting this special grant.

It is really great to know that the Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant and his government is working for the welfare of people and is considering people’s views, suggestion and ideas for further progress of the State.

The government has appealed to the people to submit their suggestions on email goaliberation60@gmail.com on or before February 10, till 5.30 pm. The whole process of compiling all suggestions forwarded by the people is done by the Department of Information and Publicity which is appointed as Nodal Department for conducting the yearlong activities.

The inviting of suggestions from the general public shows the Government’s commitment in taking the people into confidence in this significant and momentous occasion. The idea of the Chief Minister is to involve people, which in deed is a great vision for the big event by incorporating people ideas.
