Libreta is new Areal sarpanch

Libreta Travasso is the new Sarpanch of Sao Jose de Areal village.
In the elections held on Monday, Libreta was declared elected for the coveted post after she defeated Thelma Dias by 5-6 votes. The result came as a rude shock to the Thelma group which was perceived as having a majority in the 11-member group.
When contacted, Libreta told Herald that she would try to bring about the all round development of the village in consultation with the people.
Asked to outline her stand on the illegal scrapyards in the village, the new Sarpanch said she would work towards the removal of the scrap yards as per the wishes of the people. She further said she would support the popular demand against mega housing project.
When asked whether she belongs to the camp of Local MLA Reginaldo Lourenco or South Goa MP Francisco Sardinha, Libreta said she would work in close cooperation with both the MLA and the MP in the interest of the village,
The elections were necessitated following the resignation of outgoing Sarpanch Martha Cardozo as per an agreement amongst her 6-member group.
However, the ruling group had to bite the dust in the polls when Libreta from the rival group emerged victorious.
