Life on wheels: Baby boy delivered in 108 ambulance

SANGUEM: The staff of the 108 Ambulance service faced a real-time challenge on Friday evening when they found themselves assisting in the birth of a patient’s baby. they were transporting from Pirla village for medical treatment.

Responding to a call, the ambulance, stationed at Neturlim, rushed to Pirla to collect a pregnant migrant lady, Sushma, who had gone into labour. The ambulance, driven by Devidas Gaonkar and accompanied by Emergency Medical Technician Subhadra Chavan, was en route to the Quepem Primary Health Centre.

Around 15 kilometres away from the health centre, at Collamb in Rivona, Sushma began experiencing intense pain, prompting the driver to take a detour from the main road. In a display of composure and skill, the driver and EMT facilitated the safe delivery of a baby boy inside the ambulance.

The mother and the newborn were transported to the Quepem Health Centre. Reports indicate that both are in good health.
