CANACONA: While Dhristhi lifeguards were on their toes elsewhere in the State, rescue duties were left to the staff at a starred hotel when they rescued a tourist at Rajbag Beach on Monday afternoon.

According to reports, a tourist was struggling at Rajbag Beach, when other tourists swimming nearby raised an alarm.

A Jet-Ski operated by The Lalit Spa and Golf Resorts staff for water sports, rushed to the site and secured the tourist.

A Dhrishti lifeguard, reportedly on the lifeguard’s watchtower, was later seen running with a board towards the sea and swam to the site, where the victim was recuperating on the hotel’s water scooter.

“This is the third incident where hotel staff were involved in rescue operation, while Dhrishti lifeguards failed to react on time,” said a hotel staff, speaking on the condition of anonymity.

When pointed out that the lifeguard did not use the Dhristi water scooter and only went with a rescue board, the hotel in-charge for Sports & Leisure remarked: “Ask them when was the last time they operated that water scooter to save any victim.”
