PANJIM: Seven tourists, including a six-year-old boy, were saved by lifeguards in five separate incidents at Agonda, Sinquerim, Morjim, Calangute and Palolem beaches.
According to reports, a family of five members from Bandra-Mumbai entered a no-swim zone at Agonda beach. After a while, a six-year-old boy from the group was pulled by a rip current. Lifeguards rushed towards the boy and brought him safely to the shore.
At Sinquerim beach, two tourists from Kerala entered a no-swim zone. Despite lifeguards warning them to shift closer to the waterline, the duo continued at the same location. The victims later experienced an inward pull due to a rip current. The victims panicked. Lifeguards rushed towards the victims and brought them safely to the shore.
At Calangute beach, a group of 100-150 tourists entered a no-swim zone close to the water sports area. Lifeguards directed the tourists to shift to a safer zone, but two tourists from Pune who were under the influence of alcohol
refused to pay attention to the requests. The two victims experienced an inward pulled due to a rip current. Lifeguards observed the victims in distress and rushed to the spot and rescued them.
At Morjim beach, lifeguards saved a 26-year-old tourist from Bangalore, while at Palolem beach, a 28-year-old tourist from Mumbai was saved.
