PANJIM: Save Mhadei Save Goa Front has appealed citizens to light a candle or a diya at 7.30 pm on February 12, Sunday, as a symbolic gesture towards our fight to save diversion of River Mhadei.
Addressing mediapersons on Monday, the Front member and historian Prajal Sakhardande said that the Front has also decided to hold taluka-level corner meetings from next week to create awareness about Mhadei River for people to know the importance of the river and how its diversion will have ramification on the State population, ecology, wildlife and environment.
He said that it is very important to make people aware about Mhadei in a bid to strengthen the movement against diversion of the river.
Sakhardande said that people are requested to light a candle or diya in their houses at 7.30 pm on February 12, ‘as a symbolic gesture towards our mother Mhadei’. He also stated that on February 16, the Front had organised all-religious prayer meet in Panjim.
Another member, Hrudaynath Shirodkar informed that the symbolisation and corner meetings will culminate with a massive public meeting at Azad Maidan, the schedule of which will be announced shortly. He also said that Front has not taken any call for Goa bandh at this point and has received support from organisations from neighbouring districts of Maharashtra.
