PORVORIM: Electronic goods worth Rs 10 lakh were damaged after lightning struck seven houses at Uccasaim in Bardez on Thursday night.
According to reliable sources, the lightning struck the houses of Parusharm Patil, Rohidas Dicholkar, T Gawade, Giridas Salgaonkar, Srikant Bhise, Vitthal Govekar and Milind Pednekar.
In all, four refrigerators, three television sets and other electrical appliances besides, electrical wiring were burnt due to the lightning. Sarpanch Shubanand Mandrekar visited the houses and assured to take up the matter with the authorities concerned.
Elsewhere in the taluka, heavy showers accompanied with gusty wind uprooted several trees at Guirim, Mapusa and Siolim. According to Mapusa fire station, they received 10 calls complaining about trees uprooting and falling on the roads and damage to houses. The trees that fell on the houses were cleared by Friday evening. The damage caused to the houses has been estimated at Rs 71,000, stated the Mapusa fire station officials.
