Lightning kills worker in Pernem

PERNEM: In a tragic incident, a lightning strike on Thursday evening claimed the life of a 37-year-old worker, who had taken shelter from the rain in a temporary shed at Hankhane-Pernem.   

The police said the victim identified as Kalu Mali, a Rajasthan native, was working at Hankane, Pernem when the tragedy struck at around 5.45 pm.

According to police, Mali along with two co-workers had taken shelter in a temporary shed due to heavy rainfall and lightning. Suddenly, they were struck by a lightning and as a result, Mali fell unconscious.

He was then taken to the Primary Health Centre at Casarvanem-Pernem where the doctor on duty declared him brought dead.  

The Pernem Police later conducted the panchanama and sent the body to the Goa Medical College and Hospital, Bambolim mortuary. 

Further investigations are on, police said.
