VALPOI: Three cattle died when a lightning struck them at Nagargao, as heavy rains and strong winds damaged plantations in different parts of Sattari taluka.
According to reports, the incident took place at 4.30 in the evening on Sunday, when heavy rains lashed the taluka. The three cattle were squatting under a mango tree near the government primary school at Nagargao, when lightning struck the tree. The animals died on the spot.
Locals rushed to the site but could do little to revive the three animals. A veterinary officer was summoned to the site but he confirmed that the three cattle were dead.
Since the cattle owner could not be located, the Nagargao panchayat will initiate the process of disposing off the dead cattle.
When contacted, Nagargao Sarpanch Parag Khadilkar said the cattle had died in an unfortunate incident. The panchayat would undertake the dispose off the three dead animals.
Meanwhile, heavy rains and strong winds led to extensive damage to plantations and other property in different parts of Sattari taluka.
