MARGAO: Four members of the Sunil Zambaulikar family had a lucky escape as lightning passed through their house at Sirvodem on Friday evening without affecting any of them or the house in any way.
On Friday evening at around 9.20 when Sunil’s wife was feeding their daughter and it was raining heavily, a lightning bolt entered through their front door and went out of the opening between the rear wall and roof.
It passed very close to Sunil’s wife who slipped and injured her elbow. All the lights and two fans that were on in the house have been burnt out along with the meter box being damaged. The television was not affected as it was switched off when the incident occurred.
The lightning bolt after coming out of Sunil’s house struck a coconut tree nearby blowing of its crown that landed in a low lying area nearby. The coconut tree looked like it was scratched by heavy metal and the remaining stump was cut off today by the owner of the land Mary Faleiro.
