NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court has directed the Goa government to list all criminal cases filed against the mining firms within two weeks in pursuance of its 2014 judgment on Goa Foundation’s petition on iron ore mining in the State declared by it as illegal.
A Bench comprising Justices Sanjay Kishan Kaul and Hemant Gupta on Tuesday passed the order ex-parte on the Goa government’s petition against industrialist Anil Salgaocar’s sons Arjun and Sameer and Joaquim Alva on the government counsel stating that similar criminal complaints were also filed against other mining firms following the Supreme Court judgment.
It asked the government to file a list of all such cases filed in pursuance to the judgment and the stage at which these cases are pending. The case will be listed before it on April 30.
The government has come in appeal against the judgment by the High Court of Bombay at Goa on March 11, 2020 on a criminal complaint it had filed on August 5, 2014.
