The pilot project of collecting segregated waste from households in six wards of Fatorda has not met with much success as people continue to mix their garbage and the municipal council has failed to address this issue for the last one month.
Sanitary section officials informed that they have to send three vehicles to these six wards one each to collect mix garbage, dry waste and wet waste. Every day one truckload of mixed garbage is collected from these six wards while one rickshaw of wet waste is collected and around 100 bags of dry waste.
The wet waste is directly sent for composting at the Sonsoddo plant while the dry waste is baled. In the last one month two truckloads of dry waste is baled and kept ready for transportation.
It may be recalled that MMC has launched the segregated waste collection in ward Nos. 2 to 7 since November 1, 2017 and specially hired 45 labourers to collect the segregated waste in these six wards. However, the workers continue to get mixed waste even though they have informed the sanitary section which households are giving mixed waste.
