MAPUSA: The four-day Mapusa Carnival festival will be held from February 25 through February 28, opposite Bodgeshwar Temple Mapusa. The festival is organized by the local municipality in collaboration with the Tourism Department.
Apart from float parade, cultural programmes have been organised as a part of carnival celebration. Uday Salkar is the chairman of Mapusa Carnival Festival Celebration Committee.
Salkar said that the celebration will start with DJ music, Ruthem Stars-Orchestra, Goan dances (traditional/folk) on first day; the second day will see African dancers, live music by Syndicate and western dances; there will be live music by Raagas and Riches, Fire dances (Kanan & Group) and Talking Drums (Carlos & Group) on the third day; the float parade will be on the fourth day, which will be followed by DJ Music, Bollywood dances, live music by Crimson Tide and Russian Dancers.
The float parade will commence at 3 pm from Milagres Church and progress through Comunidade Ghor, Bank of Goa, Sirsat Building, Gandhi Chowk and will calumniate in the open fields at Bodginim. This will be followed by prize distribution program. The whole program will end by 10.30 pm. Prizes are sponsored by GSIDC. Registration of floats will be start from 2 pm at comunidade hall on Feb 28.
The following diversions and parking have been made for the celebration: All interstate buses proceeding to Mumbai, Pune etc on will be stopped near Hotel Green Park (NH-17) and the other route buses will be parked in the open fields at the designated parking lots from 3 pm onwards, at Bodginim. The route buses from Colvale and Bicholim on reaching Karaswada junction will be diverted via Hotel Green Park junction to take right and proceed to Bodginim for parking in lot No 1 at Bodginim. The route buses from Siolim will be diverted at Court junction via Pedem, NH-17-Green Park junction and further for parking in lot No 1.
The route buses from Aldona-Pombhurpa will also follow the similar route as above. During the return journey all the above buses will follow the same route to proceed to their respective destinations. The route buses plying on Calangute/Baga, Saligao route will be parked at Bodginim in lot No 3 on Canca side. The buses plying on Assagao-Anjuna route will be parked near Old Mapusa PS Canteen, Traffic desiring to proceed to Parra from 4 pm onwards will be diverted via Khorlim-Canca or Guirim road till the float procession is over.
The float parade will begin from St Jerome Church & will culminate at Gandhi Chowk followed by prize distribution program. The whole program will end by 10.30 pm. Prizes are sponsored by GSIDC. Registration of floats will be start from 2pm at comunidade hall on 28th Feb.
A new committee has been formed as Mapusa Carnival Festival Celebration Committeewhich has Uday Salkar as a Chairman, Amelia D’souza as vice Chairman, NazeeraSayed as Secretary, Sidhi Kavlekar as Joint Secretary, Vinay Agarwadekar as Treasurer &Shekhar Gauns as Joint Treasure.
