VASCO: The Vasco Carnival Committee (VCC) has decided to organise entertainment programmes and competitions at several locations in Vasco, Dabolim and Mormugao constituencies as part of the carnival celebrations from February 25 to 28. Vasco will hold the carnival parade on February 27.
Addressing a press conference in Vasco on Thursday, MMC Chief Officer and VCC chief Deepali Naik said that Vasco carnival celebration will kick start on February 25.
“Vasco carnival will start with the inaugural function that would be held opposite MMC building, followed by a live Konkani show by Norman and his stroke besides Konkani musical show with the film actress Ester Noronha,” she said.
Naik further informed that a Konkani mimicry show would also be held later on by Konkani mimicry and comedian artist Sally. Khell tiatr will be staged at two different places in Vasco at downtown Mangor Hill at 5 pm and at Old Cross Khariwada at 8 pm.
As per the plan, a live band Bollywood style by Goan band start music which will be followed by dance performances will be held on February 26. On the same day, Khell tiatr will be staged at Vaddem behind the lake at 5 pm and also at Katem Baina at 8 pm.
The most awaited attraction which is the grand King Momo and Queen Momo float parade will be held on February 27.
The parade would start at 3 pm from St Andrew’s Church Square and the same would be routed through Swatantra Path. After the float parade, there would be a singing performances by Bhushka and Jhoney B Gud along with the band ‘Square Heads’, followed by dance group.
On February 28, a live performance will be given by Dance India Dance fame winner Faizal and a live band, followed by singing performance by Goan singer Akshata Bandekar and Russian Belly dancer. A comedy show will be held by John D’Silva.
Speaking on the security arrangements, Naik said that VCC has made elaborate security arrangements for the carnival celebration in Vasco.
CCTVs would be installed on watch towers at strategic locations; similarly the traffic police have chalked out plan for traffic arrangements involving diversion of vehicular traffic from F L Gomes road in view of closure of Swatantra Path during the grand float parade on February 27. Also, over 200 police personnel will be deployed in Vasco during the grand float parade.
