PANJIM: With an eye on completing the bridge work by January 12, the load-testing on the third Mandovi bridge began Thursday evening.
GSIDC Chairman Deepak Pauskar and Vice-Chairman Siddharth Kuncoliencar, along with officials of Larsen & Toubro and the consultants, were present for the load testing.
Kuncoliencar said the load testing began with loaded trucks of up to 8.5 tonnes. “The process will be completed in the next two days,” he said.
Kuncoliencar expressed confidence the entire work on the bridge would be completed by January 12. “Everything, including street lights, approach roads, expansion joints will be completed by January 12,” he said.
He said then the decision of inauguration has to be taken by the State government. “We have sought PM Narendra Modi’s availability, we will see when he is free,” he said.
Kuncolienacer took a dig at the Congress for criticising GSIDC for its plans to inaugurate the bridge in January. “The Congress should come here and check the reality. Over 1500 workers are on the job round the clock,” he said.
The five-kilometre, Rs 482-crore long, cable-stayed bridge is a link between Porvorim and the State capital.
