MARGAO: The Sarpanch of Aquem Baixo, Siddesh Bhagat questioned the rationale of NGPDA Chairman Micheal Lobo for proposing to install the statue of the Portuguese footballer Ronaldo using CSR funds. “Such CSR money could be used for developing the society by sponsoring the education of poor children or investing in local sports talent,” he said.
Bhagat stated that tracking down the families who need genuine support, helping them set up new ventures or providing microfinance to support their existing business will indirectly help the economy of the state and will create employment in future.
“I want to educate the Calangute MLA on how CSR can be used. Conduct academic courses, workshops; teach skills for kids, youth and women. Since Calangute is a coastal region, rigorous awareness can be done to make the people aware of the drug situation, sex trade and other illegal activities. This can prevent them from falling prey,” Bhagat said.
Bhagat questioned Micheal Lobo’s silence on the proposal to set up Jack Sequiras statue inside the Goa Legislative Assembly “No matter whose money it is, it has to be used in a good and a systematic way. If you want to build a statue, let it be of a Niz Goenkar or someone who has directly contributed service to Goa,” he said.
