Lobo flies to Delhi, likely to lobby for CLP leader post

PANJIM: Calangute Congress MLA Michael Lobo on Friday flies to Delhi to meet the party high command reportedly to lobby for the post of the Congress Legislature Party (CLP) leader.

Former Minister Lobo is in the race for the CLP leader while, former Chief Minister Digambar Kamat, owing to his seniority is also the front runner for the post. The Congress is likely to announce its CLP leader before the two-day Assembly session starting from March 29. The CLP leader will be the Leader of the Opposition.   

It is learnt to that during his visit Lobo met former Union Minister P Chidambaram, who was party’s election strategist for Goa polls and is learnt to have discussed the issue of CLP leader and also the State party president, a post which fell vacant after Girish Chodankar resigned following party’s defeat in elections. Lobo returned Goa in the evening.

Within the Congress party, a group is strongly advocating the need to give  chance to youngsters and many have expressed their views to AICC observer and MP Rajani Patil last week. They are also of the view that Lobo should be made CLP leader, given his capabilities to wrest four of the seven seats for the party in Bardez taluka while, they want Mormugao MLA Sankalp Amonkar to be the party president.
