CALANGUTE: Former Calangute sarpanch Joseph Sequeira has filed a complaint with the State Election Commission against Dy Speaker and MLA Michael Lobo for allegedly misusing government machinery for panchayat polls.
“The Calangute MLA Michael Lobo is canvassing day and night, giving false promises to the locals of regularising their houses in CRZ area,” he said. Sequeira also alleged distribution of money by Lobo and promising jobs to youth.
Pointing to an incident, Sequeira alleged that on Monday Lobo threatened a local youth Kabir Shirodkar, who had recently constructed a house.
“Later in the afternoon, the MLA arrived with the NGPDA Member Secretary and took measurement of the construction without any formal complaint or notice,” he said.
Later Sequeira, reacting to statements made by Lobo that people of Calangute need change, stated that the MLA must remember these same people had elected him first time.
“We have been here for 30 years and have never hurt the locals. The Calangute panchayat is most disciplined be it in garbage collection, cleanliness or tax collection we are number one and nobody should tell us what to do,” Sequeira said. He said people have been electing him for over 30 years only because the panchayat has functioned very well.
