Lobo: No bar tender jobs for foreigners

PANJIM: Calangute MLA Michael Lobo on Tuesday asked the government to draft a policy to ban foreigners from taking up jobs as bar tenders, while also suggesting a master plan for Candolim-Calangute-Baga.

“There are many foreigners working as bar tenders…they should be banned by law,” he told the House during demands for grants on Excise.
Lobo had raised a similar issue during the Assembly session in 2012 when he requested the government to act tough against foreigners who come on tourist visas and illegally work in pubs and illegally operate businesses in Goa. He pointed out that since these foreigners take up work illegal as bar tenders, it had caused unemployment among local youth.
In another appeal, Lobo requested that government’s decision to ban drinking liquor on beaches should exclude local families who picnic under the trees.
