Lobo slams DoPs over construction licences

PANJIM: At loggerheads on various issues with the local panchayat, Calangute MLA Michael Lobo alleged on Monday that the local body had failed to grant and renew genuine construction licences.

Speaking on the floor of the Goa Assembly during the demands for grants on panchayats, the BJP MLA said that this attitude was not only at the local panchayat level but also existed at the directorate of panchayats and this had caused immense difficulty to the people from his constituency.
“There are genuine cases where licences are kept on hold and in many other cases, the renewal is pending. There is no reason given by the panchayat (for holding back the licences),” he alleged.
Lobo cited the example of a florist shop, where the licence renewal was pending despite the owner running from pillar to post and having done all legal formalities.
“The BDO directs to approach the directorate of panchayats, and the latter gives dates, which has go on for five years and yet the licences are not granted,” the Calangute MLA complained.
This has led to piling up of probably thousands of cases with the deputy director (panchayat). “How will the minister speed up clearing the files? Will he appoint more deputy directors?” Lobo questioned.
Speaking on Food and Drugs Administration (FDA), Lobo while expressing grave concern over cleanliness of several small eateries that are probably unregistered, urged the minister to carry out a survey on registered and unregistered eateries.
