MARGAO: Councillor Mahesh Amonkar helped people of Khareband in Margao to get drinking water as the locals were suffering from water scarcity for three days.
Speaking to the media, Amonkar said that he is helping people to get the drinking water by arranging a tanker and arranged for three to four water tankers in Khareband.
Not only Khareband, but several other places of Salcete are also facing a shortage of water supply. There are reports from Majorda, Raia, Nuvem, Curtorim, Nessai, few parts of Navelim, and other places of water scarcity. People are forced to buy the water from shops for cooking purposes. Citizens from Majorda have informed that their taps have gone dry since May 16.
Apparently a power outage has affected the water supply in many parts of Salcete taluka. Besides, there are reports of damage to the water pipeline in many places as a result of the havoc wreaked by cyclone Tauktae.
