PANJIM: The Federation of Film Fraternity of Goa has blamed Entertainment Society of Goa of doling out step-motherly treatment to Goan filmmakers as not a single film by a Goan filmmaker finds a place in the official section of the International Film Festival of India-2018.
“ESG vice chairman Rajendra Talak should explain why Goan films could not find a place in IFFI-2018,” the federation’s acting president Dyaneshwar Govekar said.
He said the Goan film makers can avail benefits under the film finance scheme only if their films are screened in the official section of IFFI. “ESG had previously started ‘Goa on Celluloid’ category as part of the official section of IFFI wherein local filmmakers’ films were screened. ESG also had the responsibility of selecting films under ‘Indian Premier Section’ category, however, on account of gross mismanagement and apathy ESG lost both the sections which eventually resulted in loss to the local film fraternity.”
Govekar said it is the duty of ESG to guide and provide assistance to local filmmakers to ensure screening of their films in IFFI and other film festivals. “ESG should explain what steps they initiated in this regard,” FFFG has demanded.
“The announcement made by Vice Chairman of ESG that local films will be screened in open during IFFI is an insult to the local film producers and act of demeaning of Goan films,” Govekar said.
He added, “It is unfortunate that delegate cards, kits etc are not ready till date when the film festival is just five days away,” he said.
