A trapped sea turtle was rescued by local fishermen at Varca beach on Monday. As per the local fishermen, the turtle was stuck in an old fishing net. The fishermen rushed to remove the net and sent him back to the sea.
On Monday morning the fishermen from Varca once again came to the rescue when they saw a turtle entangled with an old disposed fishing net and sea weeds. Pele Fernandes and other fishermen spotted the struggling turtle as they were on their way for jogging. They immediately removed the net and the seaweeds from the turtle. Fortunately, the turtle was unharmed and was released back to the sea. Tourists present at the beach were seen taking photographs and videos of the rescued turtle.
Highlighting the community’s commitment to marine conservation, Pele remarked, “This is the 23rd sea turtle which we have rescued and we will continue rescuing turtles and other animals in future. There was no need to inform the forest department as the turtle looked very healthy. If the turtle was injured then we would have done the first aid treatment. We always ensure that these turtles are freed and returned to their natural habitat.
