CHAPORA: Residents of Chapora, Anjuna and Vagator vending at Chapora fort allege harassment from migrant vendors. A delegation of vendors on Monday met Anjuna Police Inspector demanding immediate action.
They said that some migrant vendors who run business at the Chapora fort create a lot of problem for locals to run their business. They alleged that migrant vendors abused one Menjita M. Sawant with filthy language and blocked the pathway with chairs. This further result in verbal arguments or at times brawls between the migrant and local vendors.
Local vendors further alleged that the migrant vendors are also involved in illegal activities such as supply of drugs to tourist, which not only spoils the business but cast a bad image about entire village, too.
They demanded people from the village should only be allowed to run businesses at the fort.
Vendors said they have even written to Department of Archeology and Ports in this regards.
This issue was raised before the local Panchayat. The panchayat has passed resolution that they will write to the Department of Archeology to seek intervention.
They requested Anjuna police to take strict action against the migrant vendors. Anjuna PI said, “We will investigate into the matter and initiate required action.”
