MAPUSA: The residents of Sawalwada-Pernem on Wednesday voiced their opposition to the setting up of a COVID Care Centre at the indoor stadium.
Rama Sawaldesai a resident said, “When the CM had announced that the Pernem indoor stadium will be used as COVID Centre, we had submitted a memorandum to Pernem Deputy Collector and had sent CC to Chief Minister objecting to the setting up of COVID Centre. Despite this, the authorities began the process of setting up the centre. We have strong objections to this care centre since this is residential area and we do not want to invite the virus in our locality”.
Another resident said, “Almost every household has a family member, who is above 50 years. There are children, people with heart ailments, diabetes, etc, and if the centre comes up in this locality which is residential area then there are chances of people getting infected “.
Sadanand Sawal Desai, another local said, “Several infected patients will be brought here and the virus will spread. There are houses located near the stadium “.
Bina Sawal Desai, another resident said, “There are no proper facilities available here. Even the stadium’s main gates are not in place. No other facilities are available. And setting up the centre in a residential area without taking the residents into confidence is not right”.
