Locals and artistes from Ponda enraged over parade’s curtailed timings

PONDA:  The code of conduct for the ZP elections has dampened the mood ahead of the Shigmo parades as it will now have to wind up at 10 pm

Artistes and locals from Ponda have expressed their anger, which resonates with enthusiasts from other parts of Goa as well.

It may be recalled that the Ponda locals had appealed to the authorities to extend the timings from 10 pm to 1 am and had pointed out that there had been earlier instances where the police had to forcibly shut the parade at 10 pm, even when half of the parade was not complete. Pointing out that thousands come to watch the show for which, lakhs of rupees are spent on the floats, and months are spent preparing for the same and romtamels, locals are very disappointed. In Ponda, the parade will be held on Tuesday, March 10 and will start at 3 pm.

Ashok Naik president of the Ponda Shigmo Committee confirmed that it will wind up at 10 pm and said that they have decided to follow the rules. This comes after a joint meeting held with the Ponda Deputy Collector, PI, Traffic PI and others. Naik appealed to the Shigmo artists, float groups and romtamel troupes to follow the strict timings to avoid any issue later.
