Ponda: A video of a young tiger strolling alongside the railway tracks at Karanjal railway station has gone viral on social media, creating a panic amongst locals. Forest officials have confirmed the movement of tigers near Karanjal, a railway station between Castlerock and Dudhsagar Waterfall.
According to sources, although the video has been in circulation since Thursday, the actual spotting may have occurred a few days ago, and the video was shot in the evening. When contacted, the station master confirmed the movement of tigers in the area. In the 1.36-minute video, the tiger is seen walking beside the tracks. The tiger is said to have come from the forested Castlerock area.
Manish Lambor, ex Sarpanch of Collem panchayat said that tigers are often seen in the Castlerock forest, and sometimes cross the borders in search of prey. A tiger was spotted in the Tinai Ghat area a couple of years ago. Siddhesh Naik, a forest officer with the Mollem Wildlife Sanctuary confirmed the presence of the tiger near the railway station after Forest Department staffers inspected the place.
