VASCO: Locals from Sindolim in Sancoale, on Thursday, apprehended a tempo driver who was illegally dumping expired food products in the area, which is identified as eco sensitive zone. Agitated locals summoned the Verna Police who later seized the tempo and have registered a case against the culprit who was involved in destroying the environment inSancoale.
According to Narendra Naik, the local residents along with a local social group were upset with the illegal dumping of waste products including industrial waste that was taking place on the road leading to St Joseph Vaz church in Sancoale from NH 17 B. They maintained a vigil to nab the culprit and on Thursday morning managed to apprehend the tempo that was dumping the garbage there.
“One tempo driver stopped by the side of the road and began dumping bags of garbage one by one by the side of the road. We moved in and caught him red-handed,” one of the locals said.
Officials from Sancoale panchayat and Verna police rushed to the site and the police seized the tempo that was used. Further investigation is in process.
