MAPUSA: The locals have blamed the police inaction for the increasing number of chain snatching and theft cases in the Colvale-Revora jurisdiction.
The locals claimed the rise in the number of snatching incidents in Tivim constituency have forced them to take up night patrolling in the village as they alleged that the police have failed to nab the culprits.
“People have started patrolling during the night to crack down on snatching cases in the village. Despite several requests, the police have failed to initiate action”, Sudesh Naik, a local alleged.
“We requested the Mapusa Police to maintain a strict vigil in the village and patrol the areas more often. However, the police are not taking necessary steps. Recently, with regards to the ATM theft case in Colvale, we had requested them to maintain a strict vigil but it appears that the cops have not learnt their lessons from the crime. Now, these snatching incidents are happening in broad daylight too”, another local claimed.
Sources informed that the people, who are in involved in snatching, are young boys, who roam in the village, survey the areas and commit the crime. They also make use of cutters, which helps them to snatch gold ornaments and run away.
On Saturday, a few locals, who were maintaining a vigil in the village, nabbed four suspects and assaulted them. The locals informed that these four persons were sitting outside their rooms late night and they suspected them to be involved in the crimes.
