Locals claim tenancy rights

Sanguem mamlatdar office records statements of 16 tenants; No landlord has staked ownership rights so far

SANGUEM: The Sanguem Mamlatdar office has recorded statements of 16 persons who have filed their claims in respect of the land acquisition proceedings for the IIT project at Cotarli in Sanguem as of date.
All the claims recorded so far by the officials at the mamlatdar office have come from the tenants. Not a single land owner has filed the claim over the acquisition proceedings as of date.
Twenty-one survey holdings are reportedly earmarked for acquisition for the IIT project and most of them comprise either of paddy fields or cashew plantations. All the twenty-one survey holdings are coming under the revenue village of Cotarli and have been cultivated by the tenants for several decades.
Tenants approaching the Mamlatdar office have been asked to pass on the message of acquisition proceedings to their fellow cultivators so as to expedite the inquiry process. The land to be acquired is bounded by Nagvem village on one side and the revenue village of Sanguem on other three sides.
