Local residents have slammed the government for the manner in which it allowed the desealing of the at Sunburn Beach Club at Ozran, Vagator and how it turned a blind eye to the New Year’s Eve party that was held at the venue. The locals claimed that de-sealing the club based on an application is not correct. “If the matter was of perishable items then the authorities should have re-sealed the property after removing the perishable items. However, instead, the authorities de-sealed the club on before New Year’s Eve and allowed parties to be held on NYE,” said the locals. The locals also alleged that the concerned authorities are hand in glove with the owner allowing the parties to be held. The villagers of Anjuna, Caisua and Vagator had earlier also raised concerns as they were deprived of moving around in their own village jurisdiction since Sunburn Beach Club had changed the name of Vagator Beach as Sunburn Beach Club and deployed security bouncers to restrict movement of people in the area. This is the same structure for which the GCZMA had issued a demolition notice for in June 2019 and had directed the Collector to demolish the structure located in Survey No. 213/18 of Ozran, Vagator after it was learnt that the said structure was unauthorised with illegal hill cutting and hill slope filling. However, the authorities concerned had failed to implement the direction of the GCZMA resulting in the owner continuing with further alleged illegal construction.
