MARGAO: Fed up with the frequent power outages and voltage fluctuations they face, citizens of Margao on Thursday urged the Power Department to
resolve the problem, as it has caused damage to their household electrical appliances.
Power outages have become a regular occurrence in Margao these days, complained locals, adding that they even had to spend Diwali, the festival of lights, in darkness. On Wednesday and Thursday, many localities across Margao witnessed power outages at regular intervals of 10 to 15 minutes, which also resulted in losses to commercial establishments in the town.
“Our electrical appliances got damaged due to the power cuts on Thursday. Every time the power was restored, there was a surge. This is dangerous, and such types of power outages have become a daily affair. We request the concerned authorities and the Power Minister to resolve this issue at the earliest,” said Lyndon Fernandes, a resident of Margao. Several shopkeepers of Margao had the same complaints as well.
“The Power Department never fails to issue bills on time and recently hiked the tariffs as well but does not take on the responsibility of providing the uninterrupted power supply,” said a merchant. He added that power backup and inverters are too expensive to maintain, and they are further burdened by the need to replace appliances damaged by power fluctuations.
