SANGUEM: The villagers of Taripanto in Sanguem taluka led by Vishwanath Narvekar have urged for immediate stoppage of the movement of heavy vehicles on Taripanto bridge as a precautionary measure.
Narvekar said that while the PWD has imposed restriction on the movement of heavy vehicles on the bridge, a large number of vehicles transporting laterite stones, bassalt stones and other materials are blatantly seen using the bridge.
Narvekar claimed that the bridge has become weak and there is every possibility of the bridge collapsing in the event of heavy vehicles continue using the bridge unabated.
The bridge is exclusively used by the villagers residing at Taripanto, Vakor, Marangan, Costi and Kalay to proceed to Sanguem and in the event of its collapse, the villagers will face severe hardship. Bus transport proceeding to Sanguem from these villages will be disrupted permanently as there is no alternate route for public transport vehicles, informed villagers.
