Locals demand divider at Mapusa underpass

MAPUSA: It’s been a month since the underpass along the NH-17 at Tar-Bastora junction was thrown open to the public. It has now come to light that in the absence of a divider, the spot has become dangerous for commuters.
Motorists ply along the underpass in rash and negligent manner and this could lead to a major tragedy if no action is taken in time.
Shekhar Naik, a Mapusa resident in his post on social media has requested MLA Glenn Ticlo and Bastora sarpanch Savio Martins to look into the matter at the earliest as this spot is turning out to be dangerous.
In his post, he has requested that a divider be constructed at the site as there is a huge possibility of a major tragedy taking place at the spot.
“There is no signage directing the traffic about the diversion. The authority should look into this issue before any untoward incident takes place. We are not against development but I believe that if we can prevent something bad from happening then why not do so,” Shekhar pointed out.
Another local, Pratiksha Shirodkar said one has to cross through the underpass from Aldona to Mapusa carefully as people drive their vehicles recklessly.
She praised the authority for making a provision for pedestrian friendly footpaths at the spot.
