PONDA: The widening of Baythakhol-Curti bypass road is underway on war footing but locals have expressed concerns over Kannevhal junction at Bethora which will turn into an accident prone zone once the work is finished. Locals are demanding for a flyover to be erected at the junction as vehicles coming from all the four sides will prove to be dangerous.
Baythakhol-Borim to Curti bypass was initiated by the then CM and present agriculture minister Ravi Naik. The bypass road has proven to be a boon for the people of Ponda and passengers from other areas passing via the taluka.
The respective bypass road is especially crucial for the heavy traffic and widening was necessary. The widening work is being carried out by National Highways Authority of India (NHAI).
People from Ponda working at Bethora industrial estate travel via this road in large numbers and there is always confusion when motorists reach near the junction. Locals from Dabal take this route while travelling to Ponda, Margao and Panjim and the road is often busy with buses too using the route.
Another added danger is the heavy vehicles parked on either side of the road. Around 8 years ago a PSI had lost his life in an accident here. Bethora villagers have resolved to demand a flyover to be built here in the last two gram sabha meetings.
“People of Bethora have resolved for a flyover to be erected on the dangerous junction. The flyover is needed, otherwise mishaps will keep happening,” sarpanch Umesh Gaude said
