Locals demand stringent action on open garbage dumps at Navelim, Benaulim highway

The mounting heap of waste lining the Navelim to Benaulim highway has become a pressing issue for the community, sparking valid health concerns among locals. Residents and commuters alike are troubled by the escalating size of the garbage pile, fearing its detrimental impact on public health. 

Despite repeated pleas and complaints, it seems that the authorities have yet to address this critical matter. Urgent action is imperative to mitigate the health risks posed by this dump. The community has urged swift intervention from the local authority to rectify the situation promptly and enforce strict measures against indiscriminate garbage disposal.

Santan Periera said that the community’s concerns over the mounting waste on the Navelim to Benaulim highway are valid and urgent action is necessary to address this issue. Despite the panchayat’s efforts to collect door-to-door garbage, the situation in the constituency remains unresolved.

Pratima Coutinho emphasizes the importance of prioritizing health over infrastructure development. She also highlights the need for police patrolling to address illegal activities in the area. Furthermore, she mentions the presence of a biodiversity committee in the Navelim panchayat but notes that it has not been effective in addressing the issue.
