Locals gather at pipeline valve connection point, divert water supply to Cortalim

VASCO: Annoyed with Cortalim Sarpanch Senia Pereira and local MLA Alina Saldanha’s inability to solve the interrupted and low pressure water supply issue to some parts of the village, some locals on Wednesday gathered near the ferry wharf underground water supply pipeline valve connection point and diverted the water supply to the village.

The locals along with the panch Raymond D’Sa expressed dismay over the interrupted and low pressure water supply to most parts in the village. The valve connection point is used to divert the water to Agassaim most of the time.

“Since the last three months, Cortalim locals have been facing interrupted water supply problem. The villagers had brought this issue to the notice of the panch, sarpanch and even the Cortalim MLA but this issue has remained unsolved. Therefore we came here and diverted the water supply to Cortalim”, a lady said.

D’Sa mentioned that people from Cortalim ferry point till Vollant stretch have been suffering due to water supply issues.

Three months ago, the pressure and supply was good, people would get water supply for several hours, but since the last three months they get water supply from 4 pm to 6 pm with low pressure and some residing in the hilly area don’t get water.

He added, “Some people in areas such as Thana and Panjetar were calling and complaining about water supply problem and then I called MLA’s personal secretary and informed about this issue, but till date nothing has happened. We will keep a vigil to see who comes and diverts the water supply again as the water from Cortalim is going to St Andre constituency and how can it be allowed when the people of Cortalim are suffering due to water shortage”?

Meanwhile, repeated efforts to contact the Cortalim sarpanch via phone proved futile.
