Arambol: Arambol is sensing the end of its carefree journey. The clairvoyant sees a future that is not the same as the past- Free-living and mingling, and absolute safety. There was no judging and no fear for so any international tourists, who saw the place which neatly balanced its unique local-ness while embracing its international aura.
The accused Vincent D’Souza (32) a local resident was arrested by the Pernem police on Monday, allegedly raped the woman on the pretext of giving her a massage, and was part of a group that illegally offered massage services near the Arambol beach in North Goa district, as per the police.
When Team Herald went to the bylines of Arambol several hidden secrets were out within a few hours about this criminal act. Firstly, people usually blamed non-Goans for the crime rate but today local Goans themselves are at fault.
The accused is a local resident of Arambol, aged 32. He lived most of his time in
Arambol. According to police sources, he became her (victim’s) friend and asked her at the beach on June 2 to take a naked mud bath at the Sweet Lake in Arambol. Later he was portrayed to be a masseur when he tried to molest her from there on. The accused sexually assaulted the complainant lady by pressing her breasts and further inserted his fingers into her vagina thereby committing rape.
She tried a lot to stop this but the man didn’t stop. After 2 days the victim filed a police complaint.
Speaking to a local from Arambol, Tushar Govekar he said that it’s a shame for what has happened, he said today the people are roaming like animals and when they see any woman they turn into beasts. He demanded action and justice for this lady. He also demanded police should have strict patrolling on the beach and most of the place.
Another local from Arambol said, “we have all types of tourists coming here, Arambol is known for its peace and beautiful location, there are several tourists who live here too for ages but our Goans are bringing a bad name by such acts”.
As per the police, D’Souza was part of a group that illegally offered massage services near the Arambol beach in the North Goa district, which is quite popular with international tourists, they said. The police added that had also worked as a school librarian in the past.
According to the police complaint lodged by the middle-aged woman, who is on a Goa trip, the accused allegedly raped her under the pretext of giving her a massage when she was lying near the Sweet Water Lake, located close to the beach, along with her male partner, an official said.
Speaking to Herald, DySP Pernem Siddhant Shirodkar said that “just because a girl is friendly and comes out on drink doesn’t mean she is sexually ready with any person. Every person has his own will and liberty of choice. A Rape is a Rape and the accused will be dealt with strictly as per law.
