Locals oppose marina project at Nauxi

Submit letter of objection to Chief Minister

VASCO: Around 24 members including activists, fisher folks and locals on Monday raised objections to the proposed marina project at Nauxi-Bambolim.
The Goenkar Committee submitted a letter of objection to Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant, at his official residence, at Altinho-Panjim, stating that it will have adverse effects on the livelihood of the villagers, traditional fishermen and biodiversity.
The Goenkar Committee had an extensive discussion with the Chief Minister and informed that the locals from coastal villages such as Curca, Bambolim, Talaulim and Tiswadi have passed resolutions to oppose this project and were not taken into confidence with regards to informing about the upcoming project.
They also demanded to postpone the date of hearing (after making proper CZMP plan) on marina project which was scheduled to be held on November 2, at Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Stadium, Taleigao Plateau.
The Chief Minister after giving a patient hearing to the committee members said, “He will try to change the date of hearing.”
The Goenkar Committee included St Andre MLA Francisco Silveira, Adv Suresh Palkar, Ramrao Wag, Aruna Wag, Rama Kankonkar, Jagdish Bhobe, Olencio Simoes and sarpanches from coastal areas.
Earlier, before meeting the Chief Minister, the committee had requested NGOs, environmentalists and activists to support in opposing the marina projects in the coastal areas.
